Center reserves 5 seats for kids of Covid Warriors under central pool

The government of the states and Union Territories will verify and select eligible candidates.

TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: The Union government has come up with the plan to earmark five MBBS seats under central quota for the fighters of COVID-19 pandemic on the frontline. The government launched a new quota named as ‘Wards of COVID Warriors’ on Thursday, for the session of 2020-21.

According to the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr Harsh Vardhan, the vacancies will cater the kids of “Covid Warriors” who died either due to Coronavirus or while on the duty of the same. The government of the states and Union Territories will verify and select eligible candidates and allot them the colleges accordingly. “This will honour the solemn sacrifice of all Covid warriors who served with selfless dedication,” he said.

“The selection of candidates will be made by the Medical Council Committee (MCC) through online application on the basis of rank obtained in the NEET-2020 conducted by National Testing Agency,” read the statement of the ministry.

“Private hospital staff and retired/volunteer/ local urban bodies/ contracted/ daily wage/ ad-hoc/ outsourced staff requisitioned by states/central hospitals/ autonomous hospitals of central/ states/UTs, AIIMS and Institutes of National Importance (INIs)/ hospitals of central ministries drafted for COVID-19 related responsibilities are all included,” Vardhan stated.

Talking about the Covid vaccine and its availability in an online launch of Modular OT-cum-ICU Complex, Vardhan commented, “vaccine to combat Covid will be made by 2021, for which there is a need to start preparing now.”

The new complex is at Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.

Speaking about other health-related schemes, he informed, “1.5 lakh health and wellness centres are being constructed in the country, which will be completed by December 31, 2022. The government wants to eradicate TB from the country by 2025, for which all state governments will have to contribute significantly.”

It is an observable initiative for the people who lost their lives at the service of the country’s health and safety.
