The University of Western Australia (UWA) has its main campus at 35 Stirling Highway, Perth, and a second campus in Albany in the South West of the state. The Western Australian Parliament passed the University of Western Australia Act in 1911, making UWA the state’s first university. Teaching began in 1913 in the Irwin Street buildings with 184 students and three faculties: Engineering, Science and Arts.
UWA says more than 28,000 students from 115 countries are now enrolled, and its About page lists 22 schools. It is registered in the Australian University category (provider number PRV12169) and is a member of the Group of Eight. Its international arm, UWA India, lists a campus in Andheri, Mumbai, taking applications for intakes from September 2026, and a Chennai campus whose location details, the site says, will be shared once finalised.
