This page sets out how The Education Daily reports, checks and corrects its work.

What we report

The Education Daily reports on the business, operation and policy of education. It gives no advice to students or parents and does not recommend courses, institutions or products.

Sourcing

Factual claims are taken from named primary sources: regulators, government departments, institutions’ own announcements, company filings, official statistics and on-the-record statements. Each article lists its sources. Where a detail comes from another publication, we say so.

Announced plans

Campus openings, approvals, new programmes and investments are reported as announced plans, with the date they were stated. Figures and dates are those given at the time and can change.

Outcomes and efficacy

Claims that a product, programme or policy improves learning, employability or other outcomes are reported only from a regulator, a peer-reviewed paper or a company filing, and are attributed to that source. A company’s own claim is never presented as fact.

Studies

When we report a study we name the journal or publisher, the date, the sample size and who funded it, and we say whether it is a preprint, a working paper or a peer-reviewed paper.

Rankings

Rankings are reported as their publishers released them, with the edition, the date and the method in one line. We add no judgements of quality of our own.

Pupils and students

We do not identify individual pupils or students, and we publish no detail that could identify a child.

Analysis

Where we draw a conclusion from the facts, it is labelled “TED analysis”.

Images

Captions say when an image is a representative photograph rather than a picture of the place or people in the story.

Commercial content

Advertising and partner content is labelled and kept separate from reporting. A profile in The Index or a listing in the Suppliers Guide does not buy coverage.

Company announcements

Institutions and companies can send announcements through the submit news page. An editor checks the sender and the original document before anything is published. Announcements we run are edited for length and style, labelled “Company announcement” and linked to the original. They are not TED reporting, and publication cannot be bought.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct the article and note the change. Report an error through the submit news page.
