TED NewsDesk, Maharashtra: To expand the field of research and teamwork in education, Consul General David J Ranz along with other senior representatives of the US Embassy had a meeting with the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) officials on Tuesday. The meeting took place in Mumbai, where the attendees planned about expanding the relationship between SPPU and the higher educational institutions in the US.

“The US is keen on partnering with universities across western India, supporting curriculum development and new technology,” said Ranz.

A few months ago amid pandemic, SPPU launched The Centre for Molecular Diagnostic which experimented on infectious and non-infectious diseases. As per the SPPU employees, the technology fascinated the US Embassy officials.

Talking about the cooperation, SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar said, “The SPPU will like to take forward ongoing relationships with US universities and offer blended programmes in liberal arts and joint research initiatives.”

As per the official notification from SPPU, Ranz outlined the necessity of the collaboration. He said that the association of Indian institutions with their American compeers is a requirement. SPPU has a reputed history of its engagements with several other Universities like Penn State University, Drexel University in Philadelphia and the University of California in Berkley.

Ranz believes that this integrity would reassure the University’s prominence, thus enabling it to engage with the rest of the Ivy League universities.

The cooperation in research and technology will strengthen educational ties between the countries.
