The current academic session will continue till May, says Karnataka Education Minister

January 16, 2020

TED NewsDesk, Karnataka: The Primary and Secondary Education Minister Mr Suresh Kumar informed that the ongoing academic session would end in May. The classes for the next academic year would begin in July. The same applies to all the grades.

“We already announced SSLC exams will not be held before May end,” said Kumar. “So the academic year will continue till then. Some learning must happen before students take exams,” said Kumar.

The school will evaluate the students for the current session as per the continuous and comprehensive assessment. The school will conduct board exams for std. X students. Talking about the reopening of schools for primary sections, the Minister said that the COVID-19 technical advisory committee would review and decide the same.

“We are open to involving all children in some academic activity or other,” he said. “Students in private schools, who are more privileged, must be viewed differently from those in government schools. The government’s role is to promote a mechanism where every child gets the right to an education,” added Kumar.

Talking about the reopening of preschools and daycare centres this year, the Minister said that the women and child welfare department would review the case.
