TED NewsDesk, Uttar Pradesh: Following the decision of Yogi government, the Supreme Court gave its consent to hike the qualifying marks for recruitment of 69000 assistant teachers (Shiksha Mitras) for 2019. The division bench comprised of Justices U.U. Lalit and Mohan M. Shantanagoudar. The judgement came following the opposition raised by the UP Prathmik Shiksha Mitra Association after the decision Allahabad High Court.

The decision will enable the state government to stock almost 38000 seats in conformity with the recruitment test result declared in May. The Association filed petitions against the order of the UP government for deciding the cut-off marks for recruitment of 69000 Shiksha Mitras in 2019. The court withheld the judgement in July 2020.

The court also made a provision of a second chance for the discontented teachers and permitted them to participate in the coming recruitment exams. The state, however, has the liberty to plan the procedures in this issue.

The state government passed an order on January 7, 2019, to increase the passing marks for the recruitment test to 65 for general category and 60 for reserved quota. However, the Association objected the decision. They called the cut-offs as tyrannical and urged the government to decrease the marks to 45 and 40. Supporting their argument, the petitioners highlighted that last year 45 and 40 were the passing marks for the recruitment exam.

Following this, the Allahabad High Court asserted the Yogi government’s order for assistant teachers in the Basic Education Council schools in UP. The government then notified about the same after the commencement of examinations. The opposition mentioned that the government should have informed about the new cut-offs before the exam.
