PM lauds NEP 2020 at centenary convocation ceremony of Mysore University

TED NewsDesk, Mysore: On Monday, Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, India, addressed a virtual event marking 100 years of the University of Mysore. Praising the National Education Policy in his speech, he called it “a huge initiative to bring a fundamental change in the country’s education setup.”

PM Modi lauded NEP 2020 thus, outlining its vital role in bringing fundamental transformations in the education sector of India.

“The National Education Policy is a major mission to bring fundamental changes in the education setup of our country, from pre-nursery to PhD. We’re focusing on a multi-dimensional approach to make the capable youth of our country more competitive. We’re trying to make them flexible and adaptable for the changing nature of jobs,” he said.

The PM also outlined the policy’s dual working structure leading to youth empowerment and upgrading the education set up. Besides, he also noted the increase in girls’ active participation compared to that of boys.

“Even in higher education, and in innovation and technology, the participation of girls has increased,” PM informed.

Highlighting his government’s achievements, the PM said that they have at least set one new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) per year within his tenure (6 years) so far. As an instance, he referred to the new IIT established in Dharwad, Karnataka.

He further emphasized the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) by saying that in the last six years, his government established seven new IIMs. The country had only 13 IIMs during the former government (i.e., before 2014). Mentioning medical institutions’ progress in the country, the PM said his government facilitated over 15 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the country. All these are either in use or under construction. India had only seven AIIMS for the last six decades (until the beginning of his rule).

The Convocation took place on Monday. Mr. Modi also raised other issues like floods and its aftermath; thus, assuring the people about the state’s and centre’s assistance. The event saw the presence of the Governor of Karnataka along with other syndicate and academic members, MLAs, MPs, district and statutory officers, MLCs, students, and parents.
