Coventry University Group is not a separate company. Coventry University says the group is “an umbrella term for Coventry University and all of the locations owned and governed by Coventry University”. The university is a higher education corporation established under the Education Reform Act 1988, set up by a Privy Council Order dated 16 February 1993, and is an exempt charity; each governor is a charitable trustee.

For the year to 31 July 2025 the group reported income of £380.1m, including £303.8m of tuition fee and education income, against expenditure of £447.1m, giving a pre-tax deficit of £59.3m, its second planned deficit. In 2023 it set out to cut spending by £95m over three years, and in December 2025 it said it was on course to break even in 2025/26. Outside the UK it runs Coventry University Wrocław, opened a branch campus in Egypt in 2019 and one in Morocco in 2022, and opened Coventry University Kazakhstan in 2024. It also delivers degrees through partners in more than 30 countries.
