Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham says it is run by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, which it describes as an international charitable organisation founded in 1981 by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). Amma is the university’s founder and Chancellor. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, Vice-Chairman of the Math, is President of the university, and Dr P. Venkat Rangan has been Vice-Chancellor since Amma appointed him in 2003.
The university is headquartered at Ettimadai, Coimbatore, and its pages list campuses in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand, and its Kochi campus includes the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences hospital. It cites 31,000+ students, 2,150+ faculty, 300+ programmes and 20 constituent schools. In 2023 NAAC awarded it an A++ grade. Amrita’s pages give differing campus counts (11, ten and eight), and revenue is not published on the pages read.
