NEET 2020: 166 aspirants qualify from Prayas and Sankalp Schools in Chhattisgarh

October 19, 2020

TED NewsDesk, Chhattisgarh: As National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020, around 166 students from the Prayas and Sankalp schools run by the Chattisgarh government qualified for the test.

“Of the 166 who cleared the exam, 38 are girls from a state-run residential school in Raipur. Besides, 34 students from Naxal-hit Dantewada and 15 from Jashpur, who are being provided education under other initiatives, have also cleared NEET,” said Shammi Abidi, director of the tribal welfare department of Chhattisgarh.

Over 31 students are from the districts under the influence of Left-wing extremism- 5 belong to Bijapur while 26 come from the Bastar region, as informed by an official.

Three out of the five qualifiers from Bijapur live in some remote villages. Therefore, they attended classes under ‘Choo Lo Aasmaan,’ a scheme aided by the Maharashtra government. The govt introduced the program to provide educational assistance to students with merit post their 10th boards.

“I want to work for AIIMS, and being from Bijapur, it was just a dream. But now, I am closer to achieving my dream,” said Seema Bhagat, one of the students from the Bijapur region.

The students studying under the ‘Choo Lo Aasmaan’ scheme come from tribal families where the main occupation is farming. Overcoming all the challenges to build their careers, these children are now eagerly waiting for medical institutions to begin with admission and counseling processes.

On October 17, NTA released the NEET 2020 Results. Soyeb Aftab and Akanksha Singh top the medical entrance test. The counseling session is likely to begin this month itself.
