Karnataka government to reopen schools in November: Dr Ashwathnarayan C.N.

October 21, 2020

TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: With the effect of Unlock 5.0, the Center approved for the reopening of educational institutions, following which MHA issued guidelines for the same. After seven months of closure, these institutions are finally in the process of restarting. Reports revealed that various central schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country are likely to reopen from November 2. However, the decision is permissible only for students from 9-12 grades.

With a family of almost 15 lakh students, the country has 650 JNVs and 1250 KVs. These central schools need to adhere to the SOPs issued by MoHFW for the reopening of schools and colleges. Besides, Navodaya Vidyalayas have residential provision for their students ergo; they need to stick to the protocols issued by the GoI concerning hostels.

The Indian government, in its previous guidelines of Unlock 4.0, gave its consent to resume offline classes for 9-12th graders at their discretion. Following this, the KVs, too, were determined to bounce back to offline courses from September 21. However, the parents raised their concerns and unwillingness to send their wards at the risk of COVID-19. Consequently, the schools dropped the plan to restart physical schooling.

Meanwhile, the authorities are taking a survey of the condition and gathering data. After the Central Government, Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education, these institutions have now approached associate partners, parents, teachers, and other functionaries for views and suggestions. On the other hand, various government schools in different states like Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh have shifted to the traditional classroom model. Attendance is not compulsory, though. Despite the fewer number of students in a voluntary based class, people marked as the decision as observable and appealing. These states allowed students from 9 to 12 due to board examinations, whereas Haryana reopened schools for classes 6 to 12. The Center has strictly prohibited the states not to reopen schools for primary and nursery classes.

In the Coronavirus pandemic view, the GoI announced a nationwide lockdown in March, following which the entire educational institutions in the country had to shut down on March 23. After a long duration, several colleges and schools are looking forward to resuming offline classes from November. The government is yet to make a final decision.
