The University of Warwick sits on a 710-acre campus that straddles the boundary between the City of Coventry and the County of Warwickshire, with further land at Wellesbourne. Its historical note says the government approved its establishment in 1961 and that it received its Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1965; it admitted its first graduate students in 1964 and its first 450 undergraduates in October 1965. Stuart Croft has been Vice-Chancellor and President since early 2016.
Warwick has 33 academic departments and more than 60 research centres and institutes in three faculties: Arts; Science, Engineering and Medicine; and Social Sciences. The university gives its student population as over 28,500 in November 2022, with about a third of students from overseas.
