Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, was created by royal charter in 1592, when Dublin Corporation provided the site of the former Priory of All Hallows. Its campus in Dublin city centre covers some 51 acres, including the Trinity Technology and Enterprise Campus, with more than 220,000 square metres of buildings. Linda Doyle is Provost and President; she took office on 1 August 2021 as the 45th Provost.

Trinity has three faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; and Health Sciences. Its About page says it is home to 22,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Provost is the chief officer of the university and is responsible to the Board and ultimately to the State for its performance.
