Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) dates its foundation to 1398, when Sungkyunkwan was established at the start of the Joseon Dynasty as Korea’s highest national educational institute, according to the university. Its chronology records its reform as a modern three-year university in 1895. The university says a partnership with Samsung has funded several core initiatives since 1996. It is run by a school corporation whose board includes the university president.
