Shanghai Jiao Tong University dates its founding to 1896 and in 2026 is marking 130 years. It is based in Shanghai. Its leadership is headed by YANG Zhenbin, Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council, and President DING Kuiling, who is also Deputy Secretary of the university’s Communist Party committee, with an Executive Vice President and a group of Vice Presidents.
The university’s About page reports more than 61,100 students, of whom 30% are undergraduates and 64% graduate students, and more than 2,800 international students. It lists 4,130 teaching faculty, including 1,459 full professors, 1,562 academic staff and 5,594 technical and administrative staff, and research funding of 7.9 billion yuan as of 2024. The page does not give a date for the student and staff figures.
