SRM Institute of Science and Technology began in 1985 with the launch of SRM Engineering College at Kattankulathur, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It received deemed to be university status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 in 2002, according to its about page.
The institute reports eight campuses in six cities, naming Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani and Baburayanpettai in the Chennai area, Tiruchirappalli, Modinagar, Sonepat, Amaravati and Gangtok. It offers programmes in six faculties and states over 60,000 full time students and more than 4,460 faculty. It was accredited A++ by NAAC in 2024. Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar is Founder Chancellor and Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan is Vice Chancellor.
