KTH Royal Institute of Technology is based in Stockholm and dates from 1827. It describes itself as the largest institution in Sweden for technical education and research. KTH is both a university and a public authority. Education and research are organised in five schools, each led by a head of school reporting to the President, who is appointed by the Government on the nomination of the University Board.

KTH’s 2024 annual report records 15,200 full-time students, 1,551 active research students, the equivalent of 4,117 full-time positions and a total turnover of MSEK 6,884. Its About page says it offers nearly 100 programmes and attracts around 17,000 students. In November 2023 the University Board decided to move operations at KTH Södertälje to KTH Campus and KTH Flemingsberg, with the relocation due to be completed by August 2025.
