Indian Institute of Technology Patna describes itself as one of the new IITs established by an Act of the Indian Parliament on 6 August 2008. Its campus is at Bihta, about 40 km from Patna in Bihar.
The institute lists ten departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Humanities and Social Science. It offers BTech, MTech and PhD programmes, including interdisciplinary MTech specialisations. Its administrators page names Prof. T.N. Singh as Director.
