TED NewsDesk, Mumbai: Following several debates over the commencement of examinations, the state, national and international education boards got a go-ahead from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday to conduct offline exams. The board can stick to their original schedule and conduct exams in the city. However, they should abide by COVID-19 prevention measures to ensure the safety of examiners and examinees. With the arrival of the new strain of the virus, the Mumbai civic body suspended its decision to reopen educational institutions till January 15.

To avoid the wastage of an academic year for students, the Corporation allowed the schools and colleges to carry on the examination processes. As per a BMC official, the exams will begin from January 18.

The body permitted the International Schools Association (Cambridge board) to organise preliminary exams for 9 to 12 grades. According to the order, the exams for 10 and 12 students from CBSE, SSC, CISCE, HSC (Maharashtra board), IB and IGCSE boards will take place per the schedule.

The institutions should stick to the precautionary, cleanliness, sanitary, health and security protocols regarding the pandemic. The BMC of Mumbai Metropolitan Corporation informed that a few subjects for classes 9 to 12 under Cambridge board belong to February-March session. However, their exams will start from January 23, as per the time-table.

In its previous order from December 2020, the BMC agreed to reopen city-based schools of the US and other legations, from January 18. However, BMC is yet to announce the reopening date for the rest of the institutions.
