TED NewsDesk, Assam: In an attempt to offer financial support to the Sahitya Sabhas and college students across the state, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister of Assam introduced two initiatives, on Monday.
Pragyan Bharati, the first scheme, facilitated 3,26,046 college students with Rs 1500 each to help them fulfil their educational needs. The state government refunded Rs 161 crore to provide free admission to 4 lakh, eligible candidates.
Under Bhasha Gourab, the second scheme, the state government granted Rs 43 crore to 21 literary bodies as maintenance fund. Above 600 writers benefitted from the scheme. Each of them received Rs 50000 to exercise their literary talents.
Mr Sonowal advised the country’s youths to benefit from the schemes and utilise the tool of education to gain knowledge. His government aims at providing higher education to every single person.
Focusing on overall development, the CM also encouraged the younger generation to participate in cultural activities.
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister, informed the Assam government’s efforts to educate every child in their mother tongue till 5th standard.
Apart from the monetary fund, the government is likely to provide students with pocket money.
Considering literature as a mirror to the society, the Assam government is taking several efforts to empower the writers, Sahitya Sabhas and the younger generation. As a result, Assam is the second most developed state in the field of education. The state also stands second in the performance of teaching the poorest.
