Ashok Choudhary becomes new education minister as Mewalal Choudhary resigns

November 20, 2020.

TED NewsDesk, Bihar: Ashok Choudhary, the Minister for Building Construction (Bihar), has received a new designation as the new Minister for Education on Thursday. The decision came after the demission of Mewalal Choudhary who quit over the allegations of corruption.

The name of Mr Ashok Choudhary was suggested to the Governor by CM Nitish Kumar, following which Phagu Chauhan, the Governor appointed Choudhary the Minister for Education.

Recently after the victory of NDA in Bihar Assembly Election, Mr Mewalal Choudhary had taken an oath along with 14 other ministers on November 16, as a part of the new term of Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister of Bihar.

Previously he served as the Vice-chancellor of the Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, Bhagalpur. The JD(U) government under the leadership of Nitish Kumar suspended Mewalal in 2017 over claimed falsifications in nominations. However, the government reappointed him later.

Commenting on the charges of corruption against him, he said, “An accusation is proven only when a charge sheet is filed or a court gives an order and none of the two is there to prove the allegations against me.”

Currently, Mewalal serves as an MLA from the constituency of Tarapur.
