100% placements in IIM Calcutta

December 1, 2020.

TED NewsDesk, Calcutta: One of the premier institutions of the country, IIM Calcutta recently got over with its summer internship placements for 2022 batch. IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode followed.

The college conducted the placement process online, in which 139 companies took part. Almost 43 of these companies were fresh participants. A total of 473 students participated in the process.

40% of the students bagged offer in Consulting, BSFI and Finance fields, 28% of them turned to product management, startups and e-commerce. Sales Marketing roles and General Management accounted for 32% of offers.

The entire process was carried out in three levels depending on the core proficiencies of the companies. Investments, Private Equity, Venture Capital firms, Management Consulting and international companies were a part of the first group which had 35 ventures. These companies recruited 180 students, in which Accenture hired 21 students.

The next group had 60 companies including Conglomerates, FMCG, Consumer Services, Software Services, E-commerce and Consumer Durables. These companies recruited 80 candidates. This cluster selected 171 students out of which Microsoft offered 11 vacancies. The final cluster constituted 44 firms included Advertising, Consulting Services, BSFI, Power and Utilities, Hospitality Services, Manufacturing, Start-ups and Food Aggregators. This cluster made 122 offers.

“The pandemic and economic recession had posed unforeseen challenges. It is heartening to see our students and the placement team rising to the occasion to change the systems, enabling all stakeholders to participate virtually, creating multi-layered coordination and communication channels, and maintaining positivity throughout the process. I am very happy for them. Mission accomplished!” said Prof Abhishek Goel, Chairperson, placement committee, IIM Calcutta.

The leading B-schools had a good start. IIM Kozhikode, IIM Calcutta and IIM Lucknow wrapped up the placement process. However, IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad are yet to start the process. Apart from finance and consulting, firms like e-commerce, health tech, EdTech and fintech are recruiting this year.

“Premier B-schools have their offering to the industry; they have some of the best minds. Recruiters have backed us in difficult times. Summer internships usually culminate in final offers. Companies are probably expecting an upswing next year,” said IIM Ahmedabad placements chairperson Amit Karna, in an interview.

This year, there were higher placements than expected which raised the possibilities of recovery of the damaged caused by COVID-19 to the corporate areas.
