TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: The Ministry of Education finally released the date sheet for CBSE board examinations for Std. X and XII. The exam will start from May 4, the Ministry informed on Tuesday. The practical exams, on the other hand, will begin from March 1.

The Ministry decided to conduct XIIth board exams in two shifts (10:30 am to 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm). However, it asked the authorities to appoint different staffs for both sittings to avoid the spread of Coronavirus. The exams will begin with English paper (Core and Elective). The last exam will be on June 11.

The exam duration for Xth board is 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The first paper will be language paper (Kannada, Lepcha and Odia). The exams will end on June 7.

Students will appear in the physical mode hence, the Ministry has directed to follow COVID-19 protocols like covering the faces with masks, usage of hand sanitisers, etc.

Discussing the structure of the question paper, the Ministry said the internal choice questions would constitute 33 per cent of every question paper. In the view of the pandemic’s effect on the country’s education sector, the Education Department truncated 30 per cent of the syllabus.

“Please be assured that we have done our best to ensure these exams go smoothly for you. Wish you good luck!” Ramesh Pokhriyal said while announcing.

” .. board exams will be conducted on a reduced syllabus. Thirty per cent… has been scrapped… There will also be 33 per cent internal choice in the board exam,” the Education Minister tweeted.

Denying the proposal for online mode of examination, Mr Pokhriyal said it would employ digital divide as many students living in the rural areas do not have access to the internet.

The expected date for declaration of results is July 15.

The Centre declared a nationwide lockdown in March due to COVID-19, leading to the cancellation of board examination 2020. As a result, the Ministry asked the institutions to mark students based on an alternative assessment.
