TED NewsDesk, Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a Higher Education Digital Library for students, free of cost. Students enrolled in higher education institutes in the state, or any part of India will now be able to access their best study material at no cost through this initiative. The digital library will offer students a vast collection of study material. 1,700 teachers from across 23 states of India have already uploaded more than 35,000 e-content material for 134 subjects in both English and Hindi. More than 61, 500sl students have already visited the portal.

“The digital library is a unique initiative in higher education. Now, students can access the study material created by experts from anywhere and anytime and hence education will not be confined to the boundaries of campuses and time,” said Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who is UP’s Minister for Secondary and Higher Education. He further added that students who don’t have access to expensive journals or books due to financial constraints should highly benefit from this initiative since they receive content at no cost. The Department of Higher Education has also launched a helpline number to assist students in case they face any queries related to the available content.

Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, Monika S. Garg said that The digital library is a boon for students, especially during the pandemic times. Subject-wise content is available for students to study and download for free.” She added that the content would be available for students studying law, science, management, social science, engineering, architecture, foreign languages, etc. Garg said that the portal for uploading material was launched on 5th September. Thus, September and October were observed as ‘Vidya Maah’, having the objective of ensuring the availability of quality e-content, online lectures and study material to students. She said that the initiative couldn’t have been possible without the support of the National Informatics Centre.
