Tamil Nadu: School education department identifies students from distant areas

TED NewsDesk, Tamil Nadu: In a press conference at Erode, Mr K.A. Sengottaiyan, School Education Minister, said that the School Education Department discovered 52 isolated settlements. These hamlets are situated in the mountainous regions of Tamil Nadu. Students fail to attend classes through digital mode due to inferior network quality.

The Minister informed about the issue on Friday while speaking to media. He said that many students from these hilly regions have no access to the Internet. As a result, the students lag in the process of learning.

“So far, we have identified 52 locations across the state, and due to COVID-19, teachers will not be able to hold classes for them directly. Hence, the Department is studying the problem and is working to resolve it,” Mr Sengottaiyan added.

Earlier, the parents’ association raised a complaint against education institutions for asking full fees from its students. When asked about the progress of that case, the Minister informed that they had received a petition which accused 14 private schools of demanding the entire amount from the parents. He added that the Madras High Court had actuated suo moto contempt of court hearings concerning nine of these 14 private institutions. The remaining five had no answers when investigated by Department authorities.

Mr Sengottaiyan launched a channel along with Mr K.C. Karuppannam, Minister for Environment. They also announced loans and assistance to 996 grantees, to the tune of Rs 11.18 crore, in agreement with Mahalir Thittam. Other members present in the event were Collector C. Kathiravan, MLAs and some officials.
