NewsDesk, New Delhi: On September 20, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, lauded the enactment of the National Education Policy in Jammu and Kashmir. Calling education as the key factor in bringing change, he said, the younger generation of the country play a major role in reforming the society. He assured that NEP will provide a breakthrough in recognizing India’s exceptional demographic share.

In the ‘Visitors Conference’ held on Sunday, the President hailed the union territory and focused on the way its education sector will get transformed under the effect of NEP. Other attendees present in the virtual gathering included the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, vice-chancellors of universities and other principals of colleges in J&K.

Talking about the need for the education he said, “Jammu and Kashmir is a land of rich and diverse cultural traditions. From Hinduism to Buddhism to Sufi Islam, all faiths and beliefs have found home in the cultural ethos of this land. This peaceful and shared coexistence manifests in the lives of its people. We should always remember that education brings people together; it is ignorance that divides.”

He said that value-based education will help in students to grow intellectually. NEP will enable students to gain a broader aspect of their own culture, backgrounds, tradition and the country’s heritage. He also focused on three- language policy saying that it will preserve the nation’s unity.

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s step towards making India “Aatmnirbhar”. The President went on highlighting the main focus of the scheme and talked about his desire to see the territory grow into a hub of knowledge and innovative talents.

“The policy focuses on ensuring Accessibility, Equality, Affordability, Accountability and Quality in Education and also tends to encourage Skill Development, Experience-Based Learning and Logical Thinking. I think this will ensure new and better pedagogical standards in the country,” he added.

Jammu and Kashmir has, time and again, proved its importance as a hub of creativity, setting landmarks in the field of education and knowledge. The NEP will help young minds to evolve and preserve the legacy of the place.
