TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: COVID-19 has led to a shift in educational platforms from physical classrooms to the virtual world. It has pushed students and educators to follow the online teaching-learning mode, which is often hindered by several connectivity issues that both teachers and students face. Although bad connectivity is quite a burden to the institutions, one of the critical problems is the unavailability of expert faculty members required to outline and provide an engaging syllabus to the students.

Comprehending the issue as urgent, the Philipines Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) and AkadAsia, a project-driven Edtech business has come together to train its 112- member faculty.

The collaboration aims at “Building Outcomes-Based Online Teaching Competencies Towards Advancement, Mastery, and Productivity” (BOOTCAMP) for more than 70,000 faculty members across the Philippines. To enable the smooth shift from offline to online platforms, BOOTCAMP will assist the department authorities of Colleges and State Universities across the Philippines.

BOOTCAMP helps in skill development and is structured to support members in improving their basic and advanced skills which will enable them to develop an engaging curriculum for online classes. AkadAsia’s FREEJOO Platform, involved in training, imparts theoretical knowledge of pedagogy and practical training of its technicalities.

AkadAsia is a Singapore based education technology venture whose scholastic group is responsible for the origination of the courses under the BOOTCAMP scheme. The team will act as an immediate help to the PASUC faculty members indulged in the BOOTCAMP plan.

PASUC vs AkadAsia

PASUC is an organization of post-secondary educational institutes in the Philippines. It has 112 State Universities, and Colleges (SUC) acknowledged by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), set up via Philippines legislation. Its President, Dr Tirso A. Ronquilio heads the PASUC, with head office in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. PASUC primarily looks after the local needs of formal education as well as national and international markets remotely.

Mr Neelesh Bhatia is the Co-Founder, CEO, and representative of AkadAsia, a purpose-oriented edtech enterprise based in Singapore. It provides technical training to the teachers and empowers them to be able to teach the younger generation students. So far, it has accredited 2600+ teachers in 3ti countries. It is now working upon drilling and upgrading DepEd Philippines educators under HEROES 2021 scheme.

The collaboration is a good sign in the era of technology. It will make the educators capable of teaching 21st-century learners, and also strengthen the relationship between Singapore and the Philippines. Besides, it will carry forward the ASEAN’s dictum “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.
