At the time, online studies being the only source of education in India, there are some regions where internet connectivity is not suitable for online education or other online resources.
Kerala’s Idukki’s Rajamala is one such region.
A class 12 student yesterday complained, “In the morning, we reach here by auto & in the evening, we walk back home”.
Arun, a class 12 student of Idukki said “There is no internet connectivity in Rajamala and at some spots where internet is available, the speed is very slow. It’s very difficult for us to commute 6-km daily. Sometimes, it starts raining, making things worse for us”.
In 2020, Students of the Bangaan region of Uttarkashi district, a town in Uttarakhand trekked around 10 to 15 km from there to a hilltop in the Kotadhar area to get internet connectivity from the neighboring state Himachal Pradesh’s border.
The locals of the region wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding proper network connectivity in the age of Digital India.
Another such situation was faced by Deepak Budhani, a resident of Unchakot village in Belaghat. His house was located in the lower part of the village while the good signal can only be reached in the upper regions of the village, so children had to trek to the point, so they could get the connectivity.
