TED NewsDesk, Kharagpur: IIT Kharagpur is collaborating with National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) to discuss inclusive city planning in a meeting held on Thursday. The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the development of the plan that caters each section of the society.
According to Subrata Chattopadhyay, Professor, Department of Architecture and Regional Planning, the scheme shall cater to people of every age group, including elderly and PwDs. It will facilitate transport, recreation, information and livelihood benefits to these sections.
“As we move towards a more inclusive approach, it is crucial to develop novel designs, frameworks and guidelines for cities covering larger demographics and people with varied needs,” Prof. said.
“We are proud to collaborate with NIUA to achieve comprehensive goals towards building sustainable living conditions for all,” IIT-KGP Director Professor Virendra K Tewari said.
To ensure smooth implementation of the scheme, Mr Chattopadhyay highlighted the necessity of convenience. He added the framework also requires well-equipped transportation to offer safe and secure movements to the people in a city.
