TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: In response to the issue over non-payment of salaries of to DU staffers, the Delhi High ordered the AAP government to grant the left amount of two quarters to four DU colleges by November 9. The government of national capital funds these institutes. The HC passed the order to provide the fund to these colleges to pay the outstanding salaries of their employees on Wednesday. The four colleges named were- Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Bhagini Nivedita College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya Women’s College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
The Division bench constituted Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad. The judges decided in the light of Diwali, one of the major festivals of India. They highlighted that it is not appreciable to deprive the staffers of their salaries during festival months. Hence, it ordered the colleges to release the salaries of its employees post the fund granted by the Delhi government.
In a petition filed by the Teachers’ Association of Delhi University, several teaching and non-teaching staff demanded the court to direct the government to release grants in a hope to receive the pending salaries of last four months. These government-funded institutes failed to pay their staffers due to unavailability of funds. As a result, they depended on the government to grant the money for the same. Other eight government-aided DU colleges include- Acharya Narendra Dev College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College (DU), Maharshi Valmiki College of Education and Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women.
Over the last few months, an issue surfaced between the government and 12 DU colleges regarding the release of funds for the settlement of outstanding salaries of the staffers. Previously, a protest took place owing to the direction of the AAP government to use Students Society Fund to settle the payable wages of the employees from these 12 DU colleges.
