TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: In a recent order passed by Delhi High Court, it shelved the state government’s decision directing 12 DU colleges to use the Students’ Society Fund to pay the pending salaries of their employees.
Justice Navin Chawla heard the case, thus turning down the AAP government’s decision to pay salaries staffers from students’ funds.
The decision followed the petition filed by Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), mentioning that the money from SSF is for students’ welfare and extracurricular activities. Delhi University agreed to the Union. It said, paying the staffers from the funds meant for students may violate the University’s law.
On October 16, Delhi Government passed an order directing 12 DU colleges, funded by it, to use students’ society funds to settle teaching and non-teaching members’ wages. It granted two weeks for the colleges to act accordingly. However, DUSU challenged the decision thus, filing a plea in the court.
Over the last few months, an issue surfaced between 12 DU Colleges and the state government concerning the release of grants for employees’ outstanding salaries. These colleges claimed that the government did not grant funds leading to their incapability to make payments to staffers for three consecutive months.
