November 25, 2020.

TED NewsDesk, Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed students at the centennial celebrations of Lucknow University via video conference on Wednesday. He urged the youth of India to develop virtues such as that of self-confidence and self-introspection, saying this is the aim of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) announced earlier this year by his government.

“The aim of the new National Education Policy is that the youth of the country gets to know itself,” he said at the centennial celebrations of the University of Lucknow. In his address through video conference, the Prime Minister also took an indirect jibe at the previous governments, finding fault with the functioning for years of the rail coach factory in Raebareli. He did not, however, name Congress or its president Sonia Gandhi, who represents Raebareli in the Parliament.

PM Modi released a commemorative coin and a postal stamp to mark the university’s centennial foundation day. Highlighting the importance of virtues like self-introspection and confidence for the youth of India in these trying times as the nation reels with the COVID-19 pandemic and its constant waves of aftershocks.

In times like these, as education in India faces blow after blow, attempting to surpass and persevere through tough times, the National Education Policy may be a good focal point for days to come.
