UGC directs varsities to commemorate Netaji’s birth anniversary as Parakram Diwas

The Ministry of Education (MoE) plans to conduct a competition where students will get a chance to share videos on Netaji at its online platforms.

TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: To “honour” Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all higher education institutions to celebrate the birth anniversary of Netaji as Prakram Diwas. UGC forwarded a letter to the vice-chancellors of universities and colleges, across the country, directing them to conduct seminars, sports, cultural activities, lectures, etc. dedicating it to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary. It further asked the Institutions to commemorate the day every year on January 23 to pay tribute to Netaji’s contributions.

“To honour and remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, it is requested that Universities and Colleges may commemorate this occasion by organizing several activities from 23rd January 2021 to 23rd January 2022, adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place in view of COVID-19.”

The Central Government announced to commemorate Bose’s birth anniversary as Parakram Diwas in recognition of his selfless service to the nation on Tuesday. Following the declaration, the UGC announced the same.

“Starting from January 2021, every year the occasion will be celebrated to inspire people, especially youth of this country to act with fortitude in the face of adversity as Netaji did, and to infuse in them a spirit of patriotic fervour,” the Union Ministry of Culture said.

Moreover, the Ministry of Education (MoE) plans to conduct a competition where students will get a chance to share videos on Netaji at its online platforms.

“Students, have you shared your entry yet? Don’t forget to tag Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank when you post your video and use #MyInspirationBoseji or #MeriPrernaBoseji. Remember: – The video should not exceed 90 seconds. The contest ends on January 24,” the Ministry tweeted.

Not only the students but the teaching and non-teaching staffs, officials can also take part in various activities. The University Activity Monitoring Portal will enable the participants to share the details of these activities.
