TED NewsDesk, New Delhi: Following several requests and protests by the parents demanding to curtail school fees, the Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar announced 30 per cent relaxation in tuition fees. The decision led to the end of protests from the parents. The parents of schoolchildren are now waiting for the ICSE and CBSE schools to implement the government’s decision.
The Minister further informed the government’s plan to appoint nodal officers to supervise the implementation process.
Previously, the schools restricted several students from attending online classes due to the partial payment of the fees. Ramesh, a parent of a student of an unaided school in Yelahanka, said the school restricted his ward from attending online classes since September as he could not pay the complete fee. Education Department’s ignorance took the matter to the next level, he added.
Some parents even complained regarding the school’s denial to accept the government’s decision. A parent, even after paying the first term fee and transport fee, tried talking to the school regarding the government’s order. The school, however, claimed it had no clue regarding the same.
Some schools even demanded an undertaking from the parents assuring that they will pay the entire amount if the government withdraws its order.
As soon as the government’s order came, a private school mislead a parent by claiming that the order is for government and aided schools. It further said that the court stayed the order which was later denied by a top department official.
M Srinivasan, President, Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association (MICSA), said they would discuss and respond to the government’s order on Monday.
Supporting the government’s decision on the fee issue, the Recognised Unaided Private Schools Association (RUPSA) asked the institutions to utilise the allocated budget of Rs 1500 crore for educational purposes.
