TED NewsDesk, Pune: Graduate students in technical fields like commerce have to face practical problems like not being able to write a demand draft or understand an expense statement that an audit requires. These problems arise due to the break between a practical and theoretical understanding of their subjects, due to which they face issues when dealing with real-life issues.
Taking this matter in their hands, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) recently penned an MoU with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICFAI) to provide vocational and practical training to the students.
As per SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar, the aforementioned collaboration is also keeping in its attention the coming placement period which expects a lower turnout in 2021. He added, “The commerce faculty makes up forty per cent of our students. We will have placements coming up and we all are anticipating a slowdown there, given the current job market conditions. Hence, we have recently signed a lot of MoUs with organisations for internships and job-related courses… They will help give an edge to our students. Often we see that commerce graduates don’t even know the basics of banking, accounts and such. The ICAI has a country-wide network of professionals and getting our students placed under practising CAs will open more doors for them.”
Not only will the MoU help in enhancing the practical skills of the students, but it will also work to help students land good internship programmes. To such an end, it will provide the faculty with various development programmes and the students with skilling programmes via webinars and online seminars.
It will help the students with internships as well as working Chartered Accountants with carrying on their post-doctoral degrees. Such an opportunity will make students and professionals more adept in their areas of work, hence enhancing their skill sets and competency.
