TED News Desk, Dubai: To provide equal and accessible learning opportunities to everyone, G20 members held a virtual summit. The Education Ministers of member nations virtually participated in the summit to discuss the future of the education sector.

The meeting held on September 5th, discussed the member nations’ experiences in various aspects of education. These include Education Continuity in Times of Crisis, Early Childhood Education, and Internationalization in Education. The meeting’s main objective was to conclude the discussion on these themes.

The Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal assured India’s cooperation with the G20 nations in the education sector. He added that India’s National Education Policy, 2020 is a prime example of their commitment to these themes. Once implemented in combination with the NEP 2020  these themes will change the education sector for the better. The problems faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic would no longer be a nuisance for the citizens.

A press release held after the meeting hailed online and distance learning as indispensable for community learning. An increased demand for distance learning from all quarters of the society during the pandemic has become a top priority for the G20 nations. Providing professional training to educators, quality education and the development of digital infrastructure are the most pressing matters for the member nations. In addition, protection from cybercrimes, dynamic methods of online learning and the development of an organic model of education also hold prime importance. These measures, of course, will work alongside the offline mode of education.

For a better understanding of online education and the production of better results, some research on the efficient use technology is necessary.

Early Childhood Education

According to the press release, a standard Early Child Education would provide the children with quality and easily available education, especially to those children who are financially weaker. To make sure that the children meet their educational requirements, an acute awareness of ECE within the family and society is essential. These requirements should upgrade as per the children’s developmental stage.

Education at International Level

It will be a substantial help to children if new and tested methods of education are shared among the global learning community. By globalising education, the development of an equitable system of teaching and learning on a local, national and international level is encouraged. The press intimation also emphasised on a possible internationalisation at the K-12 level. They will receive more exposure to diverse cultures and societies. It will make students culturally more aware and help them become true global citizens.

This year, the G20 summit is hosted by The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is attended by the G20 member nations, namely, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
