Rajya Sabha demands regulated fee hike for private schools

TED NewsDesk, New Delhi. A demand to regulate fee charged by private schools was made in the Rajya Sabha on Sunday by a Congress MP, who said schools were also charging high rates for books and dresses.

Raising the issue through the Zero Hour mention, Rajamani Patel of the Congress said “crores of rupees in commission” charged on school material and dresses that parents have to buy. Schools have been charging fees for even the holiday period, he said, adding the government should bring a Bill to regulate fees charged by private schools to prevent the poor from exploitation.

Among other issues raised were the following:

Dinesh Trivedi of the TMC also sought changes in dates for the NEET examination to be held between October 1 and 23, saying October 21, 22, and 23 are the most important days of the Durga puja festival. “Kindly pre-pone or postpone the examination,” he said. Naidu, however, said that the Education Minister should hear the demand.

Dola Sen of the TMC also raised the issue of removal of subjects such as secularism, demonetisation, and challenges to democracy from the syllabus.

These demands raised during the session highlight the need of the hour to focus on the undecided issues existing in the sphere of education in India. We can only hope that due attention shall be given upon the same so that students in India do not have to bear further the brunt of the chaos caused by the ongoing pandemic.
