The 15 functioning AIIMS across India, as well as other major medical government colleges like Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore and Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, are among the greatest names among these colleges.

Every year, ranking organisations such as NIRF and India Today published a list of the finest medical institutions in India.

Some of these lists are included below, such as the India Today Medical College Ranking and the NIRF Ranking 2021.

1. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

AIIMS, New Delhi (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) is a public hospital and medical research university in New Delhi, India. The AIIMS Act of 1956 governs the institute, which is run independently by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In the subject of medicine, this is India’s best institution. In 1952, the foundation stone for AIIMS Delhi was laid. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, the then-Minister of Health, proposed a new bill in the Lok Sabha on February 18, 1956, that would eventually become the AIIMS Act.

The Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (IIMS) is the first hospital in the country to undertake a successful heart transplant. In 1994, P Venugopal, the former director of AIIMS, performed the procedure.

Kayakalp Award (Cleanest Medical Facility): First Prize for maintaining cleanliness inside the institute’s premises for three consecutive years, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

2. Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh

In 1962, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) was founded. The university is regarded as one of India’s best medical schools.

Currently, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Indian Nursing Council, and the Government of India oversee the institution.

The school was founded with the goal of providing students with a high-quality education and the resources they need to become highly skilled medical teachers and doctors.

Medical Courses, Para-Medical Courses, Nursing Courses, Residency Programs, Short-term Training, Elective Training, and more are available at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

3. Christian Medical College, Vellore

The Christian Medical College Vellore (CMC) is one of India’s most prestigious medical schools, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher specialisation programmes in medicine, nursing, allied health sciences, and associated fields.

4. The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS)

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) is a multidisciplinary institute dedicated to patient care and academic research in the fields of mental health and neuroscience. 

The commitment to an integrated and multidisciplinary strategy that serves social requirements has resulted in a combined emphasis on comprehensive patient care, personnel development, and research.

Genomic research, computational neuroscience, mathematical modelling, neuroimaging, molecular biology, and a slew of new disciplines, including public health, are all being used to aid mankind in need and progress in knowledge.

The Institute advises the federal and state governments on issues such as the construction of new psychiatric facilities, the renovation of existing facilities, and the development of a national mental health strategy.

The Institute has established itself as a focal point for national policy development in the fields of mental health, neuroscience, and injuries. This is a one-of-a-kind example of a successful relationship between the federal and state governments (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare).

5. Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, named after Sanjay Gandhi, was founded in 1983 under the State Legislature Act.

It was established by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a centre of excellence for offering world-class medical care, education, and research. The institute is located 15 kilometres from the city centre on a 550-acre (22-square-kilometre) site on Raebareli Road.

Shiksha

Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, lies about 500 kilometres east of New Delhi. Lucknow is known for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai food, and delicate chikan embroidery, which is a type of fine embroidery.

Medical and nonmedical workers can receive postgraduate training at the Institute. D.M., M.Ch., M.D., PhD, postdoctoral fellowships, and postdoctoral certificate courses are all available through the training programmes.
