Mumbai University collaborates with Dell, AIF, NSDC to impart career skills to over 1 lakh students

The project aims to impart skill development courses for aspiring students via career mentoring, leveraging online skilling platforms and providing skills aligned with market requirements

TED NewsDesk, Mumbai. The University of Mumbai, American Foundation (AIF), Dell Technologies and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) announced a collaboration for ‘Project Future Ready’. This project has the aim of providing career guidance to college students in India while also enhancing their employability skills. 

As per the official statement, the project has NSDC as the skilling partner and AIF as an implementation partner. It aims to impact more than 1lakh students in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, out of which 60% will be female students. The collaborators part of this initiative will put primary focus on building capacity and certifying 200 college faculties as multi-skilled career mentors by the Mumbai University’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED). These trained faculty members will thus engage with 500 aspiring students via workshops, career guidance in affiliated colleges and such.

Students will also receive training from NSDC through their platform, where they’ll work on employability skills via customised courses meant to prepare them for interviews, communication and even soft skills. Upon completion of the programme, students shall receive certification from NSDC and the University of Mumbai. 

According to the official statement, this project aims to impart skill development courses for aspiring students via career mentoring, leveraging online skilling platforms and providing skills aligned with market requirements. This entire project also seeks to inculcate an entrepreneurial mindset in aspirants. It is in line with the goal of Dell Technologies that each year until 2030, 50% people empowered by its education and social initiatives will be girls, woman and marginalised/ underrepresented groups of Indian society.

The Central Government will also provide access to high-end multimedia studios and computer laboratories for practical training of students. In addition to this, Dell Technologies will be supporting the candidates by providing them will laptop’s, desktops, tablets, high-end speed internet allowance and other mandatory equipment for enabling them to access the training more efficiently via Dell’s skills TV platform.
