Home Minister Lauds the Decision, says step towards preserving the culture of J&K

Lok Sabha Passes J&K Official Languages Bill 2020

TED NewsDesk, NEW DELHI. On Tuesday the Lok Sabha passed a bill stating that Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi will now be the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir, besides English and Urdu. The Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages (Amendment) Bill, 2020 is being applauded by many government officials.

In a thread of tweets, Amit Shah, the Union Minister of Home Affairs appreciated the decision, calling it a historic day for the natives of Jammu & Kashmir. He reminded in his tweets that the law will emphasize on the development of significant regional languages such as ‘Punjabi’, ‘Pahari’ and ‘Gojri’.

“A momentous day for the people of J&K, as the Jammu Kashmir Official Languages (Amendment) Bill was passed in Lok Sabha. With this historic bill…the long-awaited dream of the people of J&K comes true,” tweeted Shah.

Further, he added that Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, Dogri and English will be the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir. He further elaborated that the legislation will ensure the power of prevailing institutional anatomy for the growth and promotion of regional languages of the territory.

“I thank PM @narendramodi Ji for his commitment towards restoring the culture of Jammu and Kashmir through this bill. I also want to assure our sisters and brothers of Jammu and Kashmir that the Modi govt will leave no stone unturned to bring back the glory of Jammu and Kashmir”.

Mr G. Kishan Reddy, the Minister of State for Home, announced the bill. According to Reddy, the decision followed the demand of the residents of J&K. Earlier, they had demanded the inclusion of Dogri, Kashmiri and Hindi as the official languages of the state.

Language is a powerful medium not only for communication but also for understanding our origin, history and preserving our cultural heritage. One hopes that this decision of including the vernacular languages of J&K will go a long way in their emancipation.
