Three Indian universities-Indian institutes of Science (IIS), IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay are yet again in the top 200 universities of the world, according to the 18th edition of QS World University Rankings.
The India Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, is India’s Top-ranked University and 122 worldwide at the QS World Rankings, 2022 IIT, Delhi, has become India’s second-best university, having risen from the 193rd rank to 185 since last year while IISc Bangalore was rated top research university with a perfect score of 100 in the citations per faculty (CPF) metric.
The India Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, touched the top rank among India’s Universities at the QS World University Rankings 2022.
However, it has fallen four places to 177 from its 2021 rank of 172. The Director of the Institute, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri in his remark said “While IIT Bombay is pleased to have retained the number 1 position in India, we strive to be competitive globally.
The drop in global rankings is certainly something we are concerned about and it appears to be linked to the Academic Reputation (AR) portion of the rankings which constitutes 40% of the weight’’. AR is based on the global survey by QS and the University needs to constantly improve to be stable enough in the rankings. IITB’s AR score remained close to that of the past year resulting in the drop in ranking.
IIT Delhi is India’s second-best university. It has improved its position from 193rd to 195th overtaking the IISc Bangalore.
“IIT Delhi has improved its ranking by 8 places and we have shown an improvement in 5 out of 6 ranking parameters. But it doesn’t make me happy or elated.
Our top institutions in India can be among the top 50 in any of the World University Rankings,” Prof Rao said in a note to his colleagues, students, and staff members. However, IIT Delhi has been the worst in the international students and faculty – Two notable parameters considered in the QS ranking measuring 5% worth.
The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, is the world’s top research university as per the citations per faculty indicator, while the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, is ranked 41st in the category, according to the coveted QS World University Rankings released on Wednesday.
This brings the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore in the same league as Princeton, Havard, and even Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), all of whom have got the perfect score.
However, it has taken the hit of being 177 ranks from 172. Lauding the institute, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar in his social media handle said: “Proud of Indian Institute of Science, IISc Bangalore, to achieve the first rank as a research university with the perfect 100 scores on CPF measure.”
As the Leading global higher education analysts QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) released the 18th edition of one of the most-consulted international university rankings marking 3 major Indian Universities in the list, “India is taking a leap in the field of Education & Research and is emerging as a Vishwaguru.” Said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
